Ottawa boys' second, girls' fourth at IVC meet

OTTAWA, Ill. – LaSalle-Peru swept Monday’s Illinois Valley Conference meet, but it was not without good showings from the Ottawa runners.

The Pirates placed second, falling 23 points behind the Cavaliers, while the Lady Pirates earned a fourth place finish at a meet that was briefly delayed due to an approaching thunderstorm.

Caleb Smith won the 100- and 200-meter dashes in 11.47 and 23.04 seconds, respectively. Cyrano Rayfield earned victory in the discus throw with a heave of 170 feet, 10 inches.

Second place finishes for Ottawa included Seamus McGettigan in the 800, the 1,600 and 3,200 relay teams,  and Blake Johnson in pole vault.

Marquette struggled to a seventh place finish, with John Weissensel taking second in the 1,600, Cory Bugelholl running second in the 3,200 and John MacBean finishing second in discus.

The Lady Pirates were consistently around the podium, but had only one winner and one second-place finisher. The 3,200 meter relay team took victory while Mia Carrera, who ran on that relay team, ran second in the 800.
Ottawa recorded five third-place finishes.

Marquette placed fifth, with McKenzie Mattes winning the 100 in 13.09 seconds and Paige Aurit running to victory in the 400 at 1:02.44. Dani Aurit finished second in the 1,600.
