Tuesday prep baseball roundup

Sterling 3, Ottawa 1
STERLING, Ill. – Shaky defense doomed Ottawa once again, as the Pirates committed five errors en route to a 3-1 loss to Sterling Tuesday.

The Pirates (9-14, 6-7 NIB12) managed just five hits in the ballgame. Jake Less struck out nine but lacked run support and took the loss, allowing one earned run on four hits and four walks.

Ottawa hosts Sterling in the rubber match of their series on Thursday. Coverage here on Full Service 1430 begins at 4:25.

Sandwich 9, Seneca 8 (completion of suspended game)
SENECA, Ill. – Bailey Watros was the hero for Sandwich, hitting a seventh-inning two-run single to give the Indians a walk-off victory over Seneca 9-8.

In the completion of Monday’s suspended game, Patrick Crothers singled with one out, followed by a Liam Crotty walk and a clean single from Trevor Dabbert to load the bases for Watros, who ripped an 0-2 pitch into left field to win it.

Luke Hardisty was the winning pitcher.

Seneca 5, Sandwich 3
SENECA, Ill. – Four Sandwich players had two hits, but a four-run third inning was too much for the Indians as they fell to Seneca 5-3.

Crotty, Dabbert, Watros and Austin Smith each had multi-hit ballgames for Sandwich. The Indians plated two to go up 2-1 in the third inning, racking up three hits and two walks while benefitting from two passed balls.

Seneca roared back the next half-inning, hammering out a pair of doubles and three hits total to plate all the runs they would need for victory.

Brandon Viken finished 2-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored for the Fighting Irish.
