Gerald “Red” Woodward, 80, of Ottawa, died Sunday night, March 3, 2013 at Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle.
Funeral Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9, at Trinity Lutheran Church in Ottawa, with Rev. David Ufkes, officiating. Burial will follow at Oakwood Memorial Park, where full military rites will be accorded. Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday, at the Mueller Funeral Home in Ottawa.
Red was born on March 28, 1932, in Ottawa, to Francis R. and Georgia (Wilson) Woodward. He was a 1950 graduate of Ottawa Township High School. He was a Pipefitter for the Local 597 for 56 years, and was an instructor and coordinator at Local 81 Pipefitters. He was a Sergeant Major in the US Army.
He married Barbara “Jean” Fisher on August 13, 1960 at Zion Lutheran Church in Ottawa. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Pipefitter Local 597, Ottawa High School Reunion Class of 1950, Fun Timers Members – First Federal Savings Bank and the Army Reserves from 1952-1992.
He liked to garden, to fish, model railroads and woodworking. He enjoyed his time with his companion, Gracie, a very special dog.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara “Jean,” a daughter, Katrina Woodward, of Downers Grove and a brother, Terry (Barbara) Woodward, of Harding.
He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Kenneth R. “Woody” Woodward.
Pallbearers will be Bob and Dale Kruger, Terry McCormick, Gabriel Woodward, and Dan Hoelker.
Memorials may be directed to Illinois Veteran’s Home in LaSalle, Alzheimer’s Association or National Parkinson Foundation.
