Lower school age won't affect LaSalle County parents much

news@ottawaradio.net
Ottawa, Ill. -- Most parents in LaSalle County put their kids in school at age five. So a new law lowering the mandatory school age from seven to six won’t be a big deal to them. LaSalle County Regional Schools Supt. Chris Dvorak says it’s an issue elsewhere that sometimes spills over here.

Dvorak predicts even though attendance locally won’t change, the law will still cost schools money. State aid to schools is partly based on how many kids attend. Schools where the lower attendance age makes a difference will expect more funds, and the state is already paying late and less than in-full statewide.
