America in Bloom judges give Ottawa special mentions

Orlando, Fla. -- Ottawa got two special mentions in the America in Bloom contest. One is for transforming a concrete downtown into an area of hanging flower baskets, trees, and landscape. The other is for the city’s floodplain management work.
The judges gave Ottawa four blooms out of five for the city’s entry in its population category. That put Ottawa in second place to Calabasas, Calif. Mayor Bob Eschbach says he’ll put the judges’ recommendations on the city’s web site.
The city was recognized for cleanliness, maintenance of roads, and the attractiveness of signs and murals.
