Ottawa mayor challenges local investors and lenders to get in on waterfront development

Ottawa, Ill. -- Ottawa Mayor Bob Eschbach describes the Jordan Block and the former Central School property as providing an unprecedented economic opportunity. He says the city can do practically anything it wants with the waterfront and make it the new downtown destination everyone’s talking about.
During the annual State of the City Address Thursday, Eschbach said developers outside the city are talking about it.
Eschbach also talked about extending the Interstate 80 tax increment financing district’s life so it can attract more development. He said a company looking to put a headquarters in Ottawa would put $18 million into a spot along Champlain St. and hire up to 200 people within two years.
