Ottawa ends ban on some south side liquor sales

Ottawa, Ill. -- A more than 70-year old ban on selling liquor on Ottawa’s south side ended last night with a City Council vote. Mayor Bob Eschbach said only two people he heard from objected to letting stores and restaurants have liquor licenses.
The new ordinance doesn’t allow any south side taverns though. And before any stores or restaurants sell such drinks, they’ll have to get liquor licenses. Kroger’s and one of the south side gas stations are interested.
The process could take just days if the applicant has a good record.
