National drug take-back event in Ottawa

Ottawa, Ill. -- The Ottawa Police Department is participating in a nationwide prescription drug disposal day Saturday. People who have old prescription medicine are asked to get rid of them safely, instead of leaving them at home where someone could someone could someday misuse them. It’s also a bad idea to throw them in the trash or flush them down the toilet, because they could end up polluting the environment.
There’ll be a drug take-back event from 10am to 2pm Saturday at the Ottawa Health Mart at 900 First Ave. It’s free and anonymous.
Outside that time frame, people can also take old prescriptions to the police station on Lafayette St. where there’s a drug drop-off box.
