Special prosecutor to look at strip search case

news@ottawaradio.net
Ottawa, Ill. -- A special prosecutor will look into whether LaSalle County sheriff or jail personnel broke any laws when they booked a Coal City woman into the county jail in May.
Dana Holmes claims she was thrown to the floor and stripped for the officers’ amusement. The county says Holmes kicked at an officer during a search, so she was quickly put on the floor, stripped, and given a safe suit to put on and a blanket to cover up with.
State’s Attorney Brian Towne says he looked into it and is certain the officers did nothing wrong. However, Judge H. Chris Ryan found this week a special prosecutor should look into it, because there could be a conflict of interest.
Holmes is suing the county. Without an outside prosecutor, it could be Towne’s job to decide on prosecuting the officers in one case and defending them in another.
