Late two-out rally puts Lisle past Sandwich

SANDWICH, Ill.—A five-run seventh inning rallied Lisle past Sandwich, 6-3.

Bailey Watros was outstanding through the first six innings for Sandwich. He retired the first 13 batters before Jacob Oard finally put a runner aboard for the Lions with a single, and had allowed just one unearned run and just three hits entering the seventh inning.

Trailing 3-0 in the sixth inning, Bailey Welch reached on an error and later came around to score on a Clifford Krause single.

Still, it looked as if the Indians would escape with victory even after loading the bases with one out in the top of the seventh. Watros got Welch to pop out to short, then George Swedie and Kevin Coppin laced back-to-back singles to put the Lions in the lead and chase Watros.

The Lions sent 11 batters total to the plate—six of them with two outs—to earn the victory. Sandwich fell to 8-11 on the season and 5-6 in Interstate Eight play.

The Indians host Seneca on Monday for Senior Parent Night.
