Indians, Lady Irish win I-8 titles

SENECA, Ill.--Sandwich and Seneca earned a pair of 1-2 finishes at the Interstate Eight Conference meet Thursday, with the Indians winning the boys' meet and the Lady Irish claiming victory in the girls' meet.

Sandwich runners won just two events but were consistently high in the finishing order to win the conference title. They held off Seneca by 13.5 points, while Plano finished third.

Austin Breunig won the 200-meter dash and Payton Brinegar won the 300 intermediate hurdles for the Indians. All four Sandwich relay teams placed in the top three, and six other Sandwich runners earned top three finishes.

Seneca relay teams struggled, finishing with just two third place finishes in the 400 and 800 relays. The Fighting Irish picked up four event victories, with Ross McCormick winning both the 1600 and 3200, Tommy Lovett claiming the 110 hurdles, and Trevin Seul soaring highest in pole vault.

The Lady Irish runners won nine events total to rout the field, winning the conference title by 95 points. Three Seneca relay teams ran to victory, and Willow Studeman won the 200 and 400. Eva Bruno claimed the 800, Rylee Anderson won the high jump, Emily Woods leaped to victory in the long jump and Brooke Larson won the discus throw.

Sandwich won the 400-meter relay but did not earn an individual victory.
