Wednesday prep baseball roundup

Marquette 3, Prairie Central 1
WENONA, Ill. – Evan Snyder allowed just three hits Wednesday, but still had to wiggle out of some late trouble to secure a Marquette victory.

The sophomore hurler stranded the tying runs by striking out Adam Livezey to end the ballgame and put Marquette (28-6) into the 2A Fieldcrest Regional final with a 3-1 win over Prairie Central.

The Hawks, who entered with just four wins on the season, gave Marquette everything they could handle. While Prairie Central starting pitcher Tyler Rafferty surrendered four doubles, he limited the Crusader offense to just six hits total. Evan Snyder plated the first run with a sacrifice fly in the third inning, and Marquette added two more in the fourth inning on RBI singles from Nolan Durdan and Jacob Martini.

That was all for Marquette, and when Jacob Razo’s two-out RBI single made it 3-1 in the seventh inning and put the tying run aboard, the Hawks briefly had a pulse—until Snyder’s seventh strikeout of the day snuffed it out.

The Regional Championship is on Saturday at Wenona. Marquette will face the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Fieldcrest and El Paso-Gridley.

Somonauk 4, Dwight 1
The top-seeded Bobcats advance to the 1A Serena Regional Final on Saturday against the winner of Thursday’s semifinal between Gardner-South Wilmington and host Serena.
