Wednesday prep softball roundup

Streator Woodland 4, Marquette 3
HENRY, Ill. – It was too little, too late for Marquette.

The Lady Crusaders fell into a 4-0 hole through 3 1/2 innings Wednesday, and watched a rally fall short in a season-ending loss to Streator Woodland 4-3 in a 1A Henry-Senachwine Regional Semifinal.

Marquette was repeatedly kept off-balance by Warriors’ starting pitcher Katie Starkey, who limited the Lady Crusaders to just six hits. Marquette started finding a rhythm in the middle innings, scoring two in the fourth inning and a final run in the fifth before rallies in the sixth and seventh innings came away empty-handed.

Erin Miskell and Maggie Durdan each had two hits, while Shannon Killelea, Kat Dyche and Beth Johnson each collected an RBI.

Marquette ends the season 23-11, tying the school record for most wins in a season.

Somonauk 25, Aurora Christian 0 (5 innings)
NEWARK, Ill. – It was just another day at the office for the powerful Somonauk Lady Bobcats.

Somonauk jumped out to an early 3-0 lead and never let off the gas, piling on 11 runs in the fourth inning to support another no-hitter from Bailee Krantz in a 25-0 rout of Aurora Christian.

The victory moved the Lady Bobcats (20-4) into the 2A Newark Regional Championship on Saturday against top-seeded and conference rival Newark, who cruised to a 19-2 win over Hinckley-Big Rock on Tuesday. Somonauk defeated Newark twice in the regular season by scores of 10-7 and 11-0.

Krantz struck out nine, walked two and hit a batter. She was also 2-for-3 with three RBIs, an effort that on many days would make her the leading hitter.

That would not be the case Wednesday, however, as Marissa Guzman exploded for six RBIs, and Nicole Krupp collected four RBIs and four runs scored. Maddie Kawall finished 3-for-4 with an RBI, coming around to score five times on the afternoon.

Earlville-Leland 15, Indian Creek 3 (5 innings)
The Lady Raiders advance to the 1A Serena Regional Championship against the host and top-seeded Lady Huskers.

Hall 8, Princeton 2
The Lady Red Devils are into the 2A Regional Final against No. 1 Seneca, to be played Saturday in Peru.
