Ottawa -- One hundred years ago Monday, an Ottawa man started the American arm of an activity, a way of life, and a movement called Scouting. Ottawa Scouting Museum Executive Director Molly Perrot says there are no high profile celebrations locally though.
In June will come the 100th anniversary of W.D. Boyce getting a Congressional charter for the Boy Scouts. Ottawa has been celebrating Founder’s Day for about 15 years.
Back in August, a decorated motor home honoring 100 years of Scouting in America stopped at Ottawa’s scouting museum. Perrot says it’s coming back Wednesday. It’s called the Century of Values tour.
Grand Ridge School Registration will be held Tuesday, August 3rd from 9am until 2pm and 5pm until 7pm and again on Wednesday, August 4th from 9am until noon. You will need to bring proof of residency which can be a real estate tax bill, utility bill, drivers' license or voter's card. Classes begin August 23rd.
On August 21st the Ottawa River Rescue Squad and Pine Hills Golf Course will be sponsoring their 1st Annual Golf Outing. All proceeds raised from the outing will be used to update equipment and facilities and to continue high quality training to members who will be able to better serve the community. The outing is a 3-4 Person Best Ball Scramble format. Prizes will be awarded including a 2010 Chevy Cobalt for a Hole-In-One. Cost is $60 per person or $240 per 4 man team.
