Ottawa, IL -- Another step in the process for getting a new school for Central Students ready to open in January 2012 was cleared last night.
At a special board meeting, the Ottawa Grade School board unanimously approved the early design concept for the new school.
Superintendent Craig Doster says the design process has kept up with the idea that the community be involved as much as possible.
The shape of the building will be a T-shaped design, with two floors of classrooms at the top and at the bottom of the T will be things like the cafeteria, administration office, and gymnasium.
This is one of two parts of the design process.
The second part will delve more into the intricate details of the design of the school so it can be ready to go out for construction bids.
That process is expected to be completed in April, with construction to start in September, if all goes according to plan.
A lot depends on FEMA approving the design and the construction bids.
Meanwhile, the state Capital Development Board now has everything it needs to determine how much money Ottawa Grade School will get to build a new school for Central students.
Superintendent Craig Doster says he’ll make an announcement as soon as he receives the word from the state.
How much the district gets from the Capital Development Board will help determine what taxpayers have to pay to help build the new school.
