Springfield, IL (Metro Networks) -- Illinois' State Board of Education Superintendent says huge teacher layoffs will arise if the state does not increase funding to schools, and even more will lose their jobs if a plan to cut spending by ten-percent is passed.
ISBE Superintendent Chris Koch testified before a Senate appropriation committee yesterday.
He floated the figure that more than 13-thousand teachers and other school workers jobs may end up being cut if funding stays at last year's levels.
Democratic Senator Martin Sandavol suggested imposing furlough days on school works, similar to those now taken by other state workers.
Republican Senator Carole Pankau questioned the board's decision to possibly cut funds for textbooks and transportation.
Grand Ridge School Registration will be held Tuesday, August 3rd from 9am until 2pm and 5pm until 7pm and again on Wednesday, August 4th from 9am until noon.
