Ottawa Fire Dept. getting air packs with federal grant

news@ottawaradio.net

Ottawa -- Twenty user friendly air packs are being bought by the Ottawa Fire Department with a Homeland Security and Federal Emergency Management Agency grant for $113,620.
Eric Crabtree of Municipal Emergency Services of Washington, Illinois says the air tanks are bigger but lighter than the nearly 20-year old air packs the fire department uses now. He says there are many features for easy use, such as gauges oriented so the wearer can easily see how much air he has.

Fire Chief Jim Duback says the local match for the grant is just over $5,000. He’d like six more air tanks and hopes to have them budgeted for in the next couple years.
