Health study shows room for improvement in LaSalle County

news@ottawaradio.net

Ottawa -- Arial;">
A recent study by the University of Wisconsin ranks LaSalle County as among the worst in the state for health factors and outcomes. The study tabulated numbers for premature deaths, disease, binge drinking, traffic crashes, crime, and numerous other things in 101 counties.
LaSalle County compared well to the statewide figures in some areas such as diabetic screening, obesity, low birth weight babies, and single parent households. Other areas where LaSalle County is worse off are things LaSalle County Health Department Health Educator Jenny Barrie says can justify asking for grants to start new programs.

One thing the county has going for it is the physical environment: pollution, access to healthy foods, and the number of liquor stores went into the rank of 57th in the state.
