Marseilles -- Twenty-four diseased and damaged trees are being removed from Illini State Park. The Illinois Department of Natural Resources says 16 are black oaks that seem to have oak wilt. There are also four ash trees, a sugar maple, two silver maples, and an elm that had various types of wilt, insect infestations, and storm damage.
The part of the park where trees are being removed is closed to the public until the job’s done. People are being told not to take any wood from the diseased or damaged trees, because that’s an easy way to spread the tree diseases.
