Ottawa proposed for Senate debate

Ottawa -- In honor of the Abraham Lincoln and Stephen Douglas Senate debates, Republican Congressman Mark Kirk is proposing a debate in Ottawa on August 21st. That’ll be the first Lincoln-Douglas debate’s 152nd anniversary.
Kirk’s debate in Ottawa would be about foreign policy. Its host would be the Chicago Council on Global Affairs. Six other debates would follow over the course of a month.
Kirk’s running for Senate against Democratic Treasurer Alexi Giannoulias and LeAlan Jones of the Green Party. Third parties are often excluded from debates. Kirk’s announcement about the debate doesn’t say whether he wants to face both opponents.
